Having a child diagnosed with type 1 diabetes is overwhelming and scary. You suddenly have to learn so much just to keep your child healthy and alive.
I (Sylvia) have been there. I’ve had two out of my three children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. (Click here to read my story.) They were diagnosed ten months apart so we had a very rough few years. Read here about my one word for that year (hint: it was SURVIVE!)
You can do this! It takes lots of learning, finding hope and support through friends and support groups (join our Facebook support group here), and learning to take things one day at a time until you find your “new normal.”
I’m a RD CDE (Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator) and my goal for this site is to help you with education and support to bring you hope and confidence to care for your child.
There will be many tears along the way, unfortunately, as you grieve the loss of a “healthy” child, but a child with diabetes can do just about anything anyone else can do, just with a few precautions. Hang in there and know you’ve got this!
